More, can I have some more?
James 4:6 (The Voice)
You may think that the situation is hopeless, but God gives us more grace when we turn away from our own interests.
This famous line and image from the book Oliver Twist, “Please sir, can I have some more?”, is not exactly what I think the writer of James meant in this verse, but I couldn’t resist using it in this post.
God wants to give us more. More grace. I believe he gives it to us freely, but also in this verse it reminds us that it is not without action on our part. We must turn away from our own interests.
Why? I think it is because when we do that we can receive grace freely and turn around and extend it freely to others.
